In order to apply for scholarships at the University of West Georgia, you need to have been admitted through the Admissions Office as an incoming freshmen/transfer student OR you will need to already be an enrolled student to apply for scholarships as a current student. However, you are welcome to search scholarship opportunities through this site for information purposes.

There is only one application you will need to complete in order to be considered for all scholarships for which you apply. This application is linked to your student information in the UWG database and much of your information has already been added to your application once you login. Dr. Chatty Pittman Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship fund was created by friends, family, and colleagues as a memorial to Dr. Chatty Pittman, a professor of mathematics for 36 years, who also served as Department Chairman for 30 years. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a rising junior or senior majoring in mathematics with evidence of good character, service to UWG, and leadership potential. The total amount generated by this fund is approximately $590. The recipient will be chosen by the Department of Mathematics.

Requirements:

1. 3.2 GPA or higher
2. Junior or Senior majoring in Mathematics



Dr. Mary Ryan Miles Scholarship

The Dr. Mary Ryan Miles Scholarship Endowment is a one year, annual scholarship given in the recipient's sophomore year. Once fully endowed, the scholarship recipient will be chosen by a scholarship committee within the Honors College. When choosing the recipient, the following criteria shall be applied: recipient should be following a pre-med curriculum with a major in Biology and/or Chemistry, and be a member of the Honors College at the University of West Georgia. Financial need will be a consideration and screened through the Financial Aid office.


Dr. Peggy S. Steelmon Endowed Scholarship

Graduate student seeking degree in collaborative support and intervention program in Reading with exceptional academic standing.  Demonstrated leadership abilities and qualities to become outstanding educator.  Preference given to financial need.


Hubert & Naomi Holland Scholarship (Continuing Student)

This scholarship will be awarded to students who are residents of Paulding County and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.




J. Albert and Martha H. Jones Presidential Scholarship

The J. Albert and Martha H. Jones Presidential Scholarship Endowment shall be awarded by the Special Programs Department Scholarship Committee. The presidential scholarship program is designed to reward incoming freshmen who demonstrate superior academic ability. In awarding, the recipient must meet criteria as designated by the University of West Georgia and UWG Honors College.


Jason Kauffman Presidential Scholarship

The Jason Kauffman Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded by the UWG Honors College to a student who has achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Under university guidelines, a student must maintain a minimum West Georgia GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors courses. The minimum criteria for the Presidential scholarship are subject to change.


Prisicilla Bennett Family Scholarship

Part- or full-time students in School Media Certification (Masters or Add-on).  Awarded after completion of one term. Preference for female students.


Professor W. Glenn Esslinger Memorial Scholarship

Dr. William Glenn Esslinger was a chemistry professor at UWG from 1968 to 2000. Dr. Esslinger loved teaching, the university, and the students. This scholarship is provided by the Esslinger family in the memory of Dr. Esslinger to extend his legacy and provide opportunities for students in the future. The recipient of the scholarship must major in chemistry, maintain a 3.0 grade point average and be from Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Heard or Haralson counties.
 


A & M Scholarships

These scholarships will be awarded to full time students who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to descendants of A & M School Alumni. A & M School Alumni and Friends of West Georgia established this fund as a tribute to the Fourth District Agricultural and Mechanical School.


African American Alumni Legacy Scholarship (AAA Legacy Scholarship)

The AAA Legacy Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the general scholarship committee at the University of West Georgia. Each year, up to $1000 will be available for one or more students. When choosing the recipient(s); the following criteria shall be applied.

1. Recipients shall be a rising Junior or Senior;
2. Have at least one African American parent or grandparent who earned a degree from UWG; and
3. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher



Alice Huffard Richards Scholarship

The Scholarship is renewable each academic year for up to a total of four years.  Students must maintain a 2.50 GPA or higher to be eligible for award renewal. $5000 or $2500 per semester.  Students that are Hope Scholarship eligible will receive a maximum annual award of $3000or $1500 per semester.  When choosing the recipients; the following criteria shall be applied:
 
  1. Undergraduate student on a four year graduation track
  2. Overall GPA of 2.50 or higher
  3. Child of a current Southwire employee
  4. Preference for students with financial need as determined by the UWG Office of Financial Aid



Alonzo and Clarence Thomas Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to an African American undergraduate student who has a minimum High School GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrates academic ability and is enrolled full-time.




Amos and Leona Caswell Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academics and financial need. Mrs. Grace Caswell Dyal, a graduate of the A & M School, has endowed this scholarship in memory of her parents, Amos and Leona Caswell of Heard County.


Ann. O Wilson Scholarship

This award shall go to a deserving student majoring in Psychology.


Annie Belle Weaver Memorial Scholarship

Student majoring in Media in College of Education.


Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Summer Field Methods Scholarship

These scholarships range from $250-$1000 and are awarded based on need, merit, and potential for growth. Summer Field Methods Scholarships may be awarded to anthropology majors who have not yet taken a field methods class for graduation requirements.
 
Need is determined by the Estimated Family Contribution and by any other circumstances the applicant wishes to elaborate on.
 
Merit is determined based on academic achievement and positive engagement in the discipline and program. Engagement is evident in critical thinking, creative vision, classroom participation, and academic risk-taking in scholarship, service, and/or anthropology-related extracurricular involvements.
 


Armand Steve Andre' Rotary Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to students based on financial need and academic ability. Family, friends, and former business associates of Mr. Armand J. "Steve" André established this fund.


Arta Mae Whatley Scholarship

One need-based award of $450 dollars annually to a student who has declared a nursing major and who resides in Carroll, Polk, Troup, Heard, Haralson, or Floyd Counties. If no student applicants from these counties are found, eligible students from elsewhere in the State of Georgia will be considered.




Ayers/Hudson Nursing Scholarships

In memory of Dennis H. Ayers and Dana Hudson. Multiple scholarships are awarded on the basis of need. May be requested as “emergency” funds throughout the academic year as need arises. Usually awarded as $250, $500, or $1,000 dollar awards.




BB&T Presidential Scholarship

The BB&T Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the UWG Honors College to a student who has achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Under university guidelines, a student must maintain a minimum West Georgia GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors courses. The minimum criteria for the Presidential Scholarship are subject to change.


Benny E. Drum Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, undergraduate student who is an employee or child of an employee of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, the Douglasville Police Department, or the Douglas County Fire Department. Entering freshman must have minimum High School G.P.A. of 2.75. Scholarship is renewable if overall G.P.A. of 2.5 is maintained. 




Bernice Freeman Memorial Scholarship

UWG Grad student working towards a Master's Degree in Education in Reading, financial need.


Berta Fields Whatley Scholarship

Will be awarded to a Sophomore, Junior or Senior majoring in Sociology, scholarship achievement, financial need, resident of Polk, Carroll, Troup, or any county in GA (priority given in that order).


Betty Irvine Griffith Memorial Scholarship

One award of $800 dollars annually to a student who is a single parent with a GPA of at least 3.0. Students must have been accepted into the nursing program.




Betty Reynolds Cobb (Freshman)

Requirements for this scholarship:

1.Freshman status
2. Financial need



Bill Cummings Scholarship Fund

UWG student pursuing an undergraduate education degree.


Bowdon Sertoma Club Scholarship

Graduates of Bowdon HS with preference for members of the Bowdon Serteen Club. 


Boyd (James Emory) Scholarship (Freshmen)

The James Emory Boyd Scholarship is presented to an incoming freshman who is a graduate of Bremen High School. The James Emory Boyd Scholarship was established by the friends and family of Dr. James Emory Boyd. Dr. Boyd was the third president of West Georgia College, serving from 1961 to 1971. Scholarship criteria should be entering freshman from Bremen High School and the selection for eligibilty will be based on merit and financial need.


Brooks O.Pittman Science Scholarship


This scholarship will benefit University of West Georgia students majoring in Chemistry, Math, or Physics.

Requirements: 
1. Student majoring in Chemistry, Math, or Physics
2.Georgia resident with a 3.5 GPA
3. Preference given to students with financial need

 




Bryant Hodges Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate Finance major with a minimum 2.5 GPA.  The Accounting and Finance Department will choose the recipient.
Amount:  $500 awarded annually 


Bryson (Jill) Legacy Scholarship (Freshmen)

 Scholarship criteria include students who are Pre- Education majors who have attended Douglas County High School.


Business and Professional Women's Club Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate from Carroll County on the basis of academics and financial need. Preference will be given to immediate family of current members, or students recommended by the Business and Professional Women's Club.


Captain David L. Cooley Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship shall be awarded annually to a student who is majoring in mathematics with preference for choir members and/or student government members. The total amount generated by this fund is approximately $500. The recipient is chosen by the Department of Mathematics.

 


Carl C. and Judith F. Horvath Memorial Scholarship

One award of $500.00 will be awarded each year to an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a BSN or MSN degree. Award may be split and granted to multiple students. Overall GPA must be 3.0 or better. Preference will be given to single parents.




Carole Ann Kilgore Memorial Scholarship

Music major with Voice as the principal applied instrument


Carroll (Chief Charles "Barry") Memorial Scholarship (Freshmen)

This scholarship is given in the honor of Chief of Carrollton Police Department Barry "C" Carroll. It is intended for incoming outstanding local freshmen  whose community service participation demonstrates commitment to community support and involvement, while educational pursuits indicate an interest in the service leadership and/or Criminology field.  Scholarship criteria include Incoming freshmen from Carrollton City or a Carroll County high school, high school gpa of 3.0 (calculated by the Office of Admissions), an outstanding record of community service or an interest in law enforcement, a 500 word essay reflecting community activities and how they've influenced their life.
 


Carroll EMC Scholarship

Must meet Honors Program criteria (please visit www.westga.edu/~honors for a listing of criteria), must be from the Carroll EMC (Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative, a local Carroll County utility company), membership base.


Carroll-Haralson Medical Alliance Scholarship

Nursing major must be a resident of Carroll County or Haralson County. Preference will be given to non-traditional students. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.




Carrollton Junior Women's Club Scholarship

Requirements for this scholarship:

1.Female.
2.Minimum 2.7 GPA
3. International student
4.leadership skills and community involvement
5.financial need



Carrollton Lions Club Scholarship

GPA of 2.0 or higher; visually impaired; hearing impaired; or have some type of physical handicap; also should demonstrate financial need.


Carrollton Parent Teacher Organization Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Carrollton High School who has at least a 2.7 GPA and who demonstrates financial need.


Cary Ichter Presidential Scholarship (Debate)

The Cary Ichter Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the scholarship committee within the Honors College department at the University of West Georgia. Under university guidelines, a student receiving this scholarship must maintain the minimum criteria for being a Presidential Scholarship recipient, which are subject to change. When choosing the recipient, the following criteria shall be applied:  member of the UWG Debate Team. Recipient shall have achieved a minimum high school GPA average of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Recipients must maintain a minimum UWG GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors College courses.


Charles W. Cox Memorial Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this fund is to help attract superior students to the Richards College of Business who will enhance the overall academic quality of both graduate and undergraduate programs.  This scholarship will be designated for MBA graduate students, as well as junior or senior undergraduate students majoring in Finance, Management, or Marketing.
Amount:  $4,600 (Multiple scholarships may be awarded)


Chemistry Scholarship for Incoming Freshmen

New, incoming freshmen majoring in Chemistry


Chemistry Workshop Leader Scholarship

Awarded to a chemistry major who has served two or more semesters as a chemistry workshop leader. Priority will be given to those who have served longer and undertaken greater responsibility in the workshop program.  The scholarship will be limited to those with known financial need.


Chester Gibson Endowment (Debate)

The Dr. Chester Gibson Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the UWG Debate Team. The scholarship shall be awarded to a student competing on the debate team with a minimum GPA of 3.0.


CHREA 20th Century Scholarship Fund

Recipient must be a rising junior accepted in the Teacher Education Pogram within the UWG College of Education, be a graduate of a public high school within Heard or Carroll counties, and maintain a GPA 3.0 or higher. Additionally, two professors (education or major area) must provide a recommendation. Financial need must also be considered.


CHREA 21st Century Scholarship

Non-traditional UWG undergraduate (25 years or older) or graduate (any age) majoring in education. Recipient should currently reside in Heard or Carroll counties. Award based equally on merit and financial need.


Christine Kauffman Hanson Presidential Scholarship

The Christine (Kauffman) Hanson Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the UWG Honors College to a student who has achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Under the university guidelines, a student must maintain a minimum UWG GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors courses. The minimum criteria for the Presidential scholarship are subject to change.


Chuck Puckett Family Endowment

This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of merit and financial need. Student must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. 




Cleo Margaret Hackney Scholarship

Sophomore, Junior, or Senior who intends to complete B.S. in Psychology at UWG who is resident of Carroll, Polk, or Troup Counties or resident of state of GA, Financial need is to be considered.


Coca-Cola Presidential Scholarship

No signed agreement - no criteria on file



Collus O. Johnson Scholarship

This scholarship will be split between 2 non-traditional students majoring in Education who demonstrate financial need.




CWO5 Edwin E. Harman III Scholarship Fund

The CWO5 Edwin E. Harman III Scholarship Fund shall be awarded annually by the UWG General Scholarship Committee. When choosing the recipient; the following criteria shall be applied:

1. Recipients will be active, reserve, prior members, or PLC (Platoon Leader Course Officer Commissioning Program) in the United States Marine Corps.
2. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0



D. W. Brooks/Gold Kist of West Georgia Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a business major with a GPA of 3.0 or greater who is from one of the following five counties:  Carroll, Heard, or Haralson in Georgia and Cleburne or Randolph in Alabama.


Davenport-Cadenhead Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full time student who demonstrates academic ability and financial need. This scholarship was established in honor of Sara Davenport Cadenhead in celebration of her fiftieth wedding anniversary of her marriage to A. Paul Cadenhead.


Davenport-Cadenhead Scholarship (Freshman)

This scholarship will be awarded to a full time student who demonstrates academic ability and financial need. This scholarship was established in honor of Sara Davenport Cadenhead in celebration of her fiftieth wedding anniversary of her marriage to A. Paul Cadenhead.


David A. Johnson Presidential Scholarship Fund

The David A. Johnson Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the Honors College or their designee. When choosing the recipient, the following criteria shall be applied: Minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200.00. Participation in Honors courses. The David A. Johnson Scholarship is renewable as long as a minimum UWG GPA of 3.2 is maintained and participation continues in Honors courses.


David Davis Memorial Scholarship

Recipient must be a UWG graduate student working towards a Master's Degree in Education. Financial need may be considered.


David S. Parkman, III Scholarship

Shall be awarded to a Junior or Senior majoring in Journalism, GPA 2.5 after 30 hrs of courses, participation in extracurricular activities, priority to staff members of West Georgian and students from Carroll County.


Debbie Forrester Memorial Scholarship

UWG senior or graduate student with an education major, who is a resident of Gwinnett County, GA. Student should have a 2.5 GPA or higher and demonstrate financial need. Candidate should be involved in the West Georgia Baptist Student Union.


Department of Chemistry Scholarship

Awarded to a chemistry major who will be attending the University of West Georgia during the succeeding academic year and is based on merit and need.
 


DeVillier Family Trust

In appreciation for the military nurses serving in World War II. One or two awards of $500 to $1,000 dollars annually. Preference will be given to those students interested in a military career. General nursing students will be considered in the absence of these candidates.




Dickinson (Jacob McGavock) Scholarship

Full time student with 3.0 GPA and strong Christian beliefs. Recipient must maintain a 3.0 while at UWG.


Donna and Wayne Tervo Accounting Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded annually by a committee within the Accounting and Finance Department to a rising junior, senior, or graduate student(s) majoring in Accounting with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Two scholarships will be awarded.
Amount:  $1,100 each



Donna Ayers Memorial Nursing Scholarship

One or two awards of $250 to $500 dollars to a Licensed Practical Nurse who is furthering their education and seeking a registered nursing degree at the University of West Georgia.




Dora Byron Scholarship

Incoming freshman majoring in Mass Comm, B average GPA, demonstrated interest in journalism, must commit to publishing 1 article per semester in UWG student newspaper. If unable to find freshman Mass Comm student, it could be awarded to female majoring in English (all other criteria must be met).


Dorothy Joiner Scholarship

This scholarship will benefit a non-traditional student, with preference given to single mothers and women returning to higher education to earn a degree. Recipients must meet or exceed UWG’s academic standards.


Dot McNabb Scholarship

Junior or Senior Physical Education/Recreation Major, 2.8 GPA, leadership qualities. Financial need secondary consideration.


Douglas and Wilma Kidd Thornton Memorial Scholarship

Recipient should be a student who graduated from a high school in Georgia


Dr. Costas (Gus) Douvanis Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a graduate student with strong academic standing in the Department of Educational Leadership and Professional Studies.  Preference given to those demonstrating financial need.


Dr. Arthur W. & Shirley M. Gardner Scholarship

The Gardner Scholarship is available to any rising junior or senior biology major. The award shall be based on academic ability and need.


Dr. Claudette Hayes Scholarship

This scholarship will be one or two awards of $1,000 dollars annually to a nursing student.




Dr. Dano M. Faires Endowment Memorial Scholarship

Graduate student majoring in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K - 5th Grade) with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrated financial need.


Dr. Donald Wagner Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Donald R. Wagner Endowed Scholarship will be awarded annually to a University of West Georgia student by a scholarship committee within the Honors College. When awarding the scholarship(s), the following criteria shall be applied: recipient must be a student enrolled in the Advanced Academy of Georgia. Recipient must be academically eligible for a Presidential Scholarship. Recipient must demonstrate financial need, as screened through the financial aid office at the University of West Georgia.


Dr. Georgia Martin Endowment Fund

The scholarship fund was established by Geneva Martin on behalf of her mother, Dr. Georgia Martin, who was Associate Dean of Student Services for West Georgia College from 1966 to her retirement in 1979. The scholarship will be awarded annually to an outstanding student who is majoring in mathematics. The total amount generated each year is appropriately $1100. The recipient is chosen by the Department of Mathematics.


 


Dr. James Earl Perry Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a junior level student or above who is a math major and has at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and 3.0 Math GPA. Financial need, academic ability, and promise will also be considered as well. 


Dr. Jeanette C. Bernhardt Scholarship Endowment

One award annually to a full time nursing student pursuing a BSN or MSN degree who exhibits academic excellence and has the personal qualities necessary to effectively minister to the sick. The only scholarship that is not need-driven. Student must have overall GPA of 3.2 or better.




Dr. Jim Mathis Scholarship Award

The Jim Mathis Scholarship is a memorial scholarship presented to a deserving biology major based on his or her academic excellence. The student will have a GPA of 3.0 or better.


Dr. John J. & Ann K. Pershing Memorial Scholarship

Fifth or sixth year student in Counseling & Education Psychology.


Dr. Michael D. Raper Memorial Scholarship

These scholarship recipients shall be Economics majors with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Multiple scholarships awarded annually up to $1,500 each.
Amount:  $3,844 awarded annually 


Dr. Prentice L. Gott Family Scholarship Fund

Annual award to a student majoring in Secondary Education; financial need.


Dr. Robert M. Reeves Scholarship

Recipeint should be a rising senior, majoring in Physical Education, Health & Community Wellness, or Sport Management, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  The student should be a member of a professional organization related to the student's major and display qualities, such as, leadership, cooperation, enthusiasm, and dependability.  Financial need may be considered.


Dr. Thomas A. Hart Biology Scholarship

Academically superior student majoring in Biological Sciences.


Dr. Thomas W. Sills Scholarship

Outstanding  student majoring in Early Childhood Education major.


Dudley Crosson Scholarship

Student seeking Master of Public Administration degree with a preference to GA residents pursuing career in city or municipal government.


Earline J. Powers Scholarship Fund

A senior majoring in Education and completing the internship phase of their program. Preference given to students from one of the following counties: Carroll, Fulton, DeKalb, Fayette, or Stephens.


Edna Becker Hallum Scholarship

The Edna Becker Hallum Scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Education.


Edwin M. Blue Scholarship

Student in education leadership. Scholastic and professional promise.


Effie McGuire Endowed Scholarship

Recipient must be a rising junior majoring in Elementary Education, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need. Preference given to graduates from a Carroll County high school. Renewable for senior year.


Elizabeth C. Boyd Presidential Scholarship

The Elizabeth C. Boyd Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the UWG General Scholarship Committee to a student who has achieved at least a minimum high school GPA average of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Under university guidelines, a student must maintain a minimum West Georgia GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors courses. The minimum criteria for the Presidential scholarship are subject to change. Preference will be given to a student graduating from Bremen High School who meets the minimum criteria.


Elizabeth L. Parker Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence. This scholarship was endowed by a bequest from Miss Parker, long-time Registrar at at West Georgia College.




Elizabeth Plunkett Buttimer Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a woman over 36 with preference given to a student with financial need.


Emerge West Leader Award (Freshmen)

Emerge West Leadership Award

These awards are given to freshmen who have exhibited outstanding leadership skills in high school, show promise in the further development of leadership skills at UWG, and express a desire to Lead West. Recipients of the Emerge West Leadership Award must commit to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program.  Participants of this first-year program will learn the foundations of leadership development, commit to being strong leaders on campus and in the community, and develop the skills to be successful leaders in their future academic, co-curricular, and social lives. Emerge West Leadership Awards are in the amount of $1000.




Emory F. and Rosa W. Boyd Scholarships

These scholarships will be awarded to worthy students with preference given to residents of Wilkes, Greene, or other nearby Georgia counties. James E. Boyd and the late John W. Boyd established this annual scholarship fund in memory of their parents.


Ernest M. Sewell Scholarship

One award of $500 dollars annually to a student majoring in nursing. The student must have been accepted into the nursing program.




Eugene O. Poindexter Endowment Fund

This scholarship will be awarded annually by a committee within the Accounting and Finance Department to a Finance student.
Amount:  $925 awarded annually 


Family and Diversity Scholarship

Undergrad students, minority students, single parents, not on academic probation, financial need. Five $500 scholarships awarded each year (preferably to 3 women and 2 men).


Felton Denney Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student with financial need (must submit a FAFSA). University friend and Carroll County resident Mr. Felton Denney endowed this scholarship in honor of his family. Students must have a 3.0 GPA after Fall Semester to ensure the Spring semester disbursement.


Foundation Scholarship (Freshmen)

UWG’s Foundation Scholarship Program is a competitive merit scholarship program designed to recognize exemplary academic success in varying amounts up to $5,000. Scholarship Criteria include a high school academic GPA of 3.5 (calculated by the Office of Admissions), SAT Critical Reading score of 550 minimum (or ACT English score of 24), SAT Math score of 550 minimum (or ACT Math score of 23), and a desire to become involved in student leadership opportunities within the Admissions Office, Office of Housing & Residence Life or campus organizations and community service activities while at UWG. 


Frances Parkman Memorial Scholarship

This award shall be awarded to a full-time undergrad majoring in Mass Communications, GPA 2.5, preference to students from Carroll County, focusing on print journalism, and participating in extracurricular programs on campus.


Fred D. White & Gail Brooks White Scholarship

This schoalrship will be awarded to a student with a career goal of medical doctor or biomedical researcher with desire to research & find cure for Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) or other pulminary diseases Student must have financial need and maintain a 3.5 GPA. Preference will be given to students residing in Douglas, Haralson, Carroll, Paulding, Polk, Floyd, and Cobb counties respectively.


Fred F. Hallum Family Scholarship Endowment

Fred Hallum Scholarship will be awarded by the Chairman of the Dept of P.E. & Rec.-- to a student participating in UWG sports with a preference given to physical and education majors.


Friends of Fred Scholarship (Fred Hutchins Scholarship Endowment)

This scholarship is awarded to at least two students (one graduate and one undergraduate) who have and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The student(s) must have graduated from a high school within Carroll County or be a Carroll County resident or employed by a Carroll County banking institution.  Selection is also based on strong moral character and a sense of responsibility to the community.
Amount:  $5,650.  (Multiple scholarships may be awarded, but a minimum of one graduate and one undergraduate scholarship will be awarded.)




Garrett, Thomas, & Fazio, P.C., Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a junior, senior, or graduate student from Carroll, Haralson, Polk, or Heard Counties majoring in Accounting.  Financial need is considered.  The department will choose the recipient. 
Amount:  $1,000 awarded annually 


George & Bertha Echols Scholarship Fund

Scholarship recipients should be a graduate of Carrollton City Schools or Carroll County Schools.


George Colyer Scholarship

Junior or senior majoring in Special Education with a minimum GPA of 2.75. Exemplifies outstanding ability to work with exceptional children.


George Fields Whatley Scholarship

The recipient shall be a Mass Communication major with a Journalism concentration and selected based on merit and scholarship achievement, financial need.


George T. Bagby Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded to a political science major.


George Washington Carver Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, African American, UWG student with a 3.0 overall GPA who is from Carroll County or Carrollton City Schools.  First preference will be given to descendants of G. W. Carver High School graduates of 1955/1956, secondary preference to descendants of G.W. Carver High School graduates from any class.


Georgian Bank Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, Junior or Senior UWG student with a 3.0+ GPA residing in the Georgia counties of Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Douglas, or Paulding. This endowment was founded by the Georgian Bank to benefit deserving students from Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Douglas, and Paulding counties.


Gibson/Overton/Peete Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded annually to a student majoring in Business Education by the Marketing and Real Estate Department.
Amount:  $1,325 awarded annually


Gillespie (Chris) Memorial Scholarship

Freshman from Villa Rica High School. 3.0 GPA, financial need


Goizueta Foundation Scholarship Fund (Freshmen)

The purpose of the Goizueta Foundation Scholarship Fund is to provide need-based scholarship assistance annually for Hispanic/Latino students whose families currently reside in the United States. The Goizueta Foundation is committed to the recruitment, retention, and success of Hispanic/Latino students here at the University of West Georgia. It is through this mission that the Goizueta Foundation annually presents renewable scholarships to qualified incoming freshmen applicants to aid their college career at the University of West Georgia.


Golden Braves Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate student with at least a 3.0 GPA. This fund was established by West Georgia Alumni to give deserving students scholarship assistance.


H. Olin Jordan Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior majoring in Computer Science demonstrating financial need with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.


Helen Harper Burton Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded annually by the Marketing and Real Estate Department to a student majoring in Marketing or Real Estate with a GPA of 2.75 or higher.  Preference will be given to a student who is interested in a career in sales and is in a leadership position in a UWG sanctioned campus organization or athletic team.
Amount:  $2,763 awarded annually


Henri Sims Varn Scholarship

This scholarship, established by Mr. K. S. Varn in memory of Mrs. Henry Sims Varn, will be awarded to a junior or senior on the basis of academics, leadership, and involvement in university activities.




Henry M. Cameron Scholarship

Congratulations!  You have been selected to receive the Henry M. Cameron Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year in the amount of $525.  This scholarship will be awarded annually to a qualified sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in Management and a resident from Carroll, Polk, or Troup County.

This scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior majoring in business at the University of West Georgia.  Selection is based on demonstrated academic ability and promise as well as need.
Amount:  Two scholarships will be awarded for $1,000 each


Ila Mae Gunnell Memorial Scholarship

A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded each year to an undergraduate student pursuing a BSN degree. The student must be an employee or the child of an employee of Tanner Medical Center/Villa Rica or Paulding Wellstar Hospital.




Indigo Scholarship Fund

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a minority business  student in the Richards College of Business in the area of technology studies.  The student must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and show financial need.
Amount:  $2,000


Ingram (DeVonner J.) Music Scholarship

UWG minority student majoring in Music, academic achievement, financial need.


Ingram Scholarship Fund of the Forties

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates academic ability and financial need. A committee comprised of class representatives from each of the Forties' classes under leadership of Mr. A. Paul Cadenhead established this scholarship.




Irvine Sullivan and Martha Munro Ingram Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student on the basis of financial need. This scholarship was established by Mr. Calvin Weems Boyd as a lasting tribute to the Ingram's and to signify the support that they provided to Mr. Boyd while he was a student at West Georgia.




J. Albert & Martha H. Jones Presidential Scholarship Endowment

Freshman demonstrating superior academic ability and financial need.


Jack E. Threadgill, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a junior or senior Accounting student with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Preference will be given to students actively involved in volunteer community or ministry work and to students with financial need.  Recipients will only be eligible to receive the scholarship on a one-time basis.
Amount:  $750 awarded annually 


Jack L. Grogan Scholarship

This award will be given to an incoming freshman with a high school GPA of 3.5 or better. Preference will be given to students who major in chemistry and plan to attend pharmacy school upon completion of a bachelor's degree.
 


James A. Wash Scholarship

In honor of Dr. James A. Wash, an annual scholarship is presented each spring to a chemistry major who will be attending the University of West Georgia during the succeeding academic year. Applicant must have completed CHEM 1211, CHEM 1212, and CHEM 3422 or CHEM 3310K and have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.
 


James B. Lipham Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a full-time business major.  The student must be an entering freshman with a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 and a minimum combined SAT score of 1012 or ACT Composite score of 21.  Priority will be given to a student residing in Muscogee County, and financial need will be a consideration.  The scholarship is renewable for four years so long as the recipient maintains full-time status, a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is an active participant in any UWG sanctioned campus organization.  
Amount:  $2,350
 


James E. Boyd Presidential Scholarship

The James Emory Boyd Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the UWG Honors College to a student who has achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Under university guidelines, a student must maintain a minimum UWG GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors courses. The minimum criteria for the Presidential Scholarship are subject to change. Preference will be given to a student graduating from Bowdon High School who meets the minimum criteria.


James M. Naughton Nursing Scholarship

Student must be a Junior or Senior majoring in Nursing. Student must also demonstrate financial need as determined by Financial Aid.




James R. Rash Rotary Club of Carrollton Scholarship

Janet Clark Endowment

Jay Chapman Memorial Scholarship

Award to two students- one male and one female.  Should be an undergraduate student majoring in Education, who has an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Preference given to studens who participdated in intramural sports.


Jean Aycock McCauley Scholarship

Several awards annually of $1,000 dollars each to mature females seeking a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate Finance major with a 3.0 minimum GPA.    The Accounting and Finance Department will choose the recipient.
Amount:  $500 awarded annually


Jim Thomas Humanistic Award

This award shall be given to a deserving graduate majoring in Psychology.


Jimmy Couch Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a Carroll County junior or senior majoring in Accounting.  The award is based on need and a GPA of at least 3.0.  The department will choose the recipient.

This scholarship will be awarded to student chosen by General Scholarship Committee with preference given to a descendant of a graduate of the A & M School. Mrs. Opal Jones established this scholarship in memory of her brother, Joe M. Ward, a 1925 A & M graduate.




John B. Bohannon Real Estate Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in Real Estate.  High academic standards and financial need are considered.  The department will choose the recipient.
Amount:  $100 awarded annually


John G. Chambers Memorial Scholarship

Top Geosciences student. Based on GPA, extra-curricular activities, and involvement in Department, University, and community. Students must submit letter of application to committee.


John Phillip Kittel Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a student with an overall GPA equivalent to or higher than the current Georgia Institute of Technology requirement for admission through the Regents' Engineering Pathways Program (REPP)
  • Awarded to a student with a GPA equivalent to or higher than the current Georgia Institute of Technology requirement for admission through the REPP program on all attempted science and mathematics courses
  • Awarded to a student who is in (at minimum) their third semester of the pre-engineering program at the time of application and plan to transfer to Georgia Institute of Technology to complete his/her degree
  • Preference will be given to a non-traditional student
  • Applicant must write an approximately 500-word essay entitled, "Why I want to go to Georgia Tech and What This Scholarship Would Mean to Me."
  • Scholarship is for one semester and not renewable
  • Top three applicants will be invited to an interview
  • The committee will make the award decision based on GPA's at the end of fall semester, along with consideration of essays and interview outcomes



John Walton Whatley Scholarship

This shall be awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Anthropology who demonstrates scholarship achievement, financial need, and is a resident of Polk, Carroll, Haralson, Troup, or any county in GA (priority given in that order).


Johnnie & Edna Huey Scholarship

Junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student with a 3.0 GPA or higher, preference for graduate student.  Student must be from Bowdon, GA or Ranburn, AL. Priority for students demonstrating financial need. Renewable as long as criteria continues to be met.


Johnson-Bryant Family Scholarship Fund

This scholarship will be awarded by to a resident of Coweta County who has a minimum 3.2 GPA, first generation college student, Junior or Senior Nursing major, and who has demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid office.


Jonathan and Larry Grams Memorial Scholarship

One award annually to a full time nursing student pursuing a BSN or MSN degree. Student must have overall GPA of 3.0 or better.




Jud Whatley Scholarship

The recipient shall be a Political Science major and  selected based on merit and scholarship achievement, financial need.


Julia Barnes Harlin Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student residing in the Georgia counties of Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Fayette, Haralson, Heard, Paulding, Polk, or South Fulton, or an adjoining Alabama county. Mr. Edgar F. Harlin, a 1917 graduate of the A & M School, has endowed a scholarship in memory of his mother, Julia Barnes Harlin.




Julian Stanley Academy Presidential Scholarship

The Advanced Academy of Georgia Scholarship Fund in honor of Dr. Julian C. Stanley shall be awarded by a committee appointed by the Director of the Advanced Academy of Georgia. In awarding, the following criteria shall be applied: scholarships shall be designated for Advanced Academy of Georgia students who demonstrate evidence of financial need.


Kaiser Permenente Endowment Nursing Scholarship

The School shall annually appoint a Scholarship Committee from within the School of Nursing to review all eligible students to identify any suitable scholarship recipient. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the criteria as established by the School.
 


Kapetanakos (Terry C.) Memorial Scholarship

The Terry Kapetanakos Scholarship is awarded annually to incoming freshmen who are graduates of a Cobb County High School, with preference given to Osborne High School graduates. Scholarship criteria are incoming freshmen from Cobb County, GA with intended major in business and financial need. Preference is given to an Osborne High School graduate. 


Kawai American Piano Scholarship

Must be split among multiple students, full-time undergrad majoring in music/principal instrument piano, GPA 2.0, meet UWG academic standards thru duration of scholarship, demonstrate superior perfromance skills in an audition.


Kennard Seforth Varn Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding student majoring in business at the University of West Georgia.  The recipient should be a resident of Ware County or an adjacent county:  (Clinch, Atkinson, Coffee, Bacon, Pierce, Brantley, or Charlton).
Amount:  $1,767


Kiwanis-Col. Frank Jones Scholarship

Recipient must have graduated from Carrollton, Central, or Oak Mtn. in Carroll County, preference for Key Club member.


L. S. Molette Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a black resident of Carroll County who has a High School GPA of 3.0 and SAT score that meets UWG's admission standards.


L. Wayne Brown Scholarship (Optometry)

This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding student with stated interest in Optometry with need being a secondary consideration.




Ladies Over 36 Scholarship

These scholarships will be awarded to women of Carroll County over 30, with first preference to women over 36, or  who live within 25 miles of Carroll County. Full-time enrollment is not required. This scholarship was endowed by a contribution from the Warren P. and Ava F. Sewell Foundation.




Landers & Adelle McCarley Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a Bowdon High School graduate. The Bowdon High School Principal, a senior English teacher, and a senior Math teacher are the selection committee. Students are selected based on merit and financial need.




Latha M. Barnes Chemistry Award for Excellence in General Chemistry

Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in Chemistry. Preference will be given to a student who has proved academic excellence through their overall GPA.


Leathers (Mary Ann) Memorial Scholarship (Freshmen)

The Mary Ann Leathers Scholarship is named in memory of the donor's daughter Mary Ann Leathers. Ms. Leathers grew up in Hapeville, Georgia and attended Hapeville High School where she was in the Marching Band and played in the Rose Bowl. After graduation, she attended West Georgia College and was a founding member of Gamma Tau Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She graduated from West Georgia College in 1972 with a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood Education. 

This scholarship offer is for incoming freshmen who have graduated (or will graduate from Mt. Zion High School in Carroll County, GA). The award shall be based equally on merit and financial need in considering students for eligibilty. 



Legacy Foundation Scholarship (Freshmen)

UWG’s Legacy Foundation Scholarship Program is a competitive merit scholarship program designed to recognize exemplarary academic success in varying amounts. Scholarship Criteria include a high school academic GPA of 3.5 (calculated by the Office of Admissions), SAT Critical Reading score of 550 minimum (or ACT English score of 24), SAT Math score of 550 minimum (or ACT Math score of 23), and a desire to become involved in student leadership opportunities within the Admissions Office, Office of Housing & Residence Life or campus organizations and community service activities while at UWG. Service hours are required as a condition of the scholarship award if selected.


Leona Ingram Scholarship

Certified educator pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree in Education. Demonstrated financial need.


Lerlie & Millard Copeland Scholarship

Full time undergraduate student with a preference to entering freshmen who demonstrate academic achievement, have a high school GPA of 3.0, and financial need. Candidates must be a child or ward of CEMC employee or member (Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative, a local electric utility company in Carroll County). CEMC members may also apply.


Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Scholarship

The grant shall be used exclusively for the purpose of providing scholarship funds for the education of financially deserving, Christian women who are residents of one of the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.




Lewis L. & Floy Burson Combs Memorial Scholarship

For students majoring in Education. Preference should be given to a student who attended high school in Heard or Carroll counties (Georgia).


Lindsey and Genet Barron Business Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a business major with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Preference will be given to students majoring in Marketing or Real Estate, students who have a financial need, and students from Newnan, Georgia.  
Amount:  $1,100
 


Linton Deck Leadership Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a graduate student majoring in Educational Leadership.  Preference to candidates who work in schools with at-risk populations and for students demonstrating financial need.


Lit Mu Scholarship

This award is offered to a Music major with Voice as the principal applied instrument whose is enrolled in the UWG Opera Workshop. 


Lois Martin Scholarship (Biology)

The recipient of this scholarship will be a major related to a medical field. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of GPA and potential with need being a secondary consideration. A college-wide scholarship committee shall choose the recipient, with recommendation provided by the Biology and Chemistry Departments.

Louis Herzog Scholarship (a.k.a.Carroll County ARC)

Recipient must be a graduate student majoring in Special Education and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Financial need will be a consideration. Preference will be given to candidates who have graduated from a Carroll county high school and have demonstrated leadership qualities.


MacGregor Flanders Scholarship

This scholarship, established by Mrs. Elizabeth Flanders in memory of her husband, will be awarded to a deserving student.


Mack C. Baird Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student from Heard County on the basis of academic achievement with need being a secondary consideration .  J. Pope Baird, Class of 1925 of the A & M School, has endowed the Baird Scholarship in memory of his father.


Major General John A. Beall Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a business school major in the Richards College of Business based on academic success and financial need.
Amount:  $1,600 awarded annually 


Mann (George) Award for Piano

Incoming or First year students, grad or undergrad, who exhibits potential for excellence in piano, must be enrolled in bachelor of Music in Piano Performance with emphasis in pedagogy degree, or in Master of Music in Piano Performance degree and in all available specialty piano courses, actively participate in piano events such as competitions, enroll in ensembles as required by degree program . If no qualified candidate is found, the award will not be made. May be renewed by maintaining A or upper B in piano courses.


Margaret Gauthier Mass Communication Scholarship

Mrs. Jewell Miles Burson Calculus Award

An award given to an undergraduate student who has completed Calculus 1 and 2 at UWG and shows great promise as a potential mathematics or science major. The student must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher.

These scholarships will be awarded to two students annually who are, or will be, majoring in math, education, or a natural science. Preference will be given to students from Carrollton or any Carroll County high school who have resided in Carroll County for at least 4 years.


Mrs. Jewell Miles Burson Presidential Scholarship

The Jewell Miles Burson Presidential Scholarship will be awarded by the Honors College Scholarship Committee. When awarding the scholarship(s), the following criteria shall be applied: to a student who has achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200, to a student who maintains a minimum University of West Georgia GPA of 3.2, and who participates in Honors courses.


Naomi L. Satterfield Scholarship

This award will be designated to a junior or senior accounting major.  The student must have completed Accounting Principles, Intermediate Accounting I, and one other accounting course in the major; be employed at least part-time and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  The department will choose the recipient.

OFS Academic Experiential Learning Scholarship

The OFS Academic Experiential Learning Scholarship provides four years of full tuition and fees for an incoming freshman. The scholarship will include a paid summer internship at OFS (Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years), and the learning experiences will include mentorship, attendance at business meetings, and opportunities to contribute through projects connecting knowledge gained in the classroom to the business environment.
 


Olson (Jennifer Lynn) Memorial Scholarship (Freshmen)

This scholarship was established by parents, Mr. Ronald L. Olson and Mrs. Patricia S. Olson, family and friends in memory of Jennifer Lynn Olson. Scholarship criteria are freshman from any high school in Cobb County, with a preference for incoming students from Lassiter High School in Cobb County.

Ovid Davis Scholarship (Debate)

The Ovid R. Davis Memorial Endowment Fund shall provide scholarships to enhance the program at UWG by attracting or retaining outstanding debaters. The number and amount of awards to be given and the selection of award recipients shall be left to the discretion of the Chairman of the Department of Mass Communications and Theatre Arts and coach(es) of the Debate Program. The recipients shall be identified as Ovid R. Davis Scholars.


Pamela Prengaman Scholarship

This award shall be given to a first generation female student at the University of West Georgia. 


Pansy Tisinger Brown Memorial Nursing Scholarship

A $500.00 scholarship will be awarded each year to a student in the Nursing Program who is a resident of Carroll County, and priority will be given to a student who comes from a single parent household.




Paris Desnoes Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a full-time, female, African American Junior or Senior with a 3.2+ overall GPA who demonstrates financial need. The recipient must be enrolled in either the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Science and Math, or Richards College of Business. They must be actively involved in one or more organizations on campus that promote minority well-being (i.e. Black Student Alliance, Student Government Association, Caribbean Student Association, or African Student Association). She must also be planning on pursuing an advanced or professional degree (excluding M.A.T. and M.Ed.).


Pat Hughes Memorial Scholarship

The Pat Hughes Memorial Scholarship shall be awarded by a committee appointed by the Academy Director to gifted high school juniors and seniors selected to attend the Advanced Academy of Georgia at the University of West Georgia. Pursuant to the annual fund distribution amount determined by the Foundation, the number and amount of the scholarship awards to be given shall be left to the discretion of the Academy Director and scholarship committee established.


Paul Baker Honorary Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate Accounting major with a 3.0 minimum GPA.  The Accounting and Finance Department will choose the recipient.

This award is given annually to a student who has shown outstanding academic achievement during the preceding year in the organic chemistry sequence. The student must have received the highest numerical average for an academic year in the Organic Chemistry courses. Preference will be given to students who have completed all organic chemistry courses. The student does not have to be a chemistry major.

Presidential Scholarship Undesignated (Currently Enrolled)

Currently enrolled Honors College students at University of West Georgia may apply for a Presidential Scholarship as a continuing student.  Award amounts vary and are based on the following criteria:

Presidential Scholarship Undesignated Funds

UWG awards several Presidential Scholarships for students with outstanding academic credentials. These awards are for amounts up to $4,500 per year, can be combined with other scholarship offers such as the HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarships, and are renewable for up to three additional years.

Reynolds Nursing Education Scholarship

This shall be awarded annually to five students. Five (5) $2000.00 scholarships will be awarded each year, $1000.00 per semester. Recipient must be an undergraduate Junior or Senior majoring in Nursing, preference for same student receiving award for two years. Must have overall GPA of 2.5 or higher and does not qualify for HOPE scholarship. Recipient must demonstrate financial need, as screened through Financial Aid, but does not qualify for full federal assistance. Preference for allocation is 1) tuition & fees 2) books 3) housing.




Rhubarb Jones Scholarship

Awarded to a rising senior who is a broadcast journalism major with a GPA of 2.5-2.9


Richard H. Glanton Endowed Scholarship

The Richard H. Glanton Endowments shall provide two (2) Presidential Scholarships to be awarded annually by the Honors College Scholarship Committee. The recipients must meet the following criteria: applicants for these scholarships must be entering first-year students, the recipients shall have placed in the top 2% of applicants with a minimum high school GPA of 3.75 and a minimum combined SAT score of 1300 or ACT-composite score of 30. Recipients must maintain a minimum University of West Georgia GPA of 3.20, and must actively participate in the Honors College courses and activities in order to remain eligible for the Presidential Scholarship.

Robert D. Tisinger Geoscience Scholarship Fund

Robert D. Tisinger Scholarship Fund (debate)

The Robert D. Tisinger Scholarship Fund will benefit for perpetuity, deserving University of West Georgia (the "University") students (or applicants) who are (or will be): First generation college students with financial needs ("Trailblazer") and actively involved in the University's intercollegiate debate program ("Debater")

Robert P. Steed Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a UWG student with a genuine financial need. The student shall be from Bowdon, Roopville or Carroll County, Georgia at-large, respectively. The scholarship was endowed by university friends Mr. Robert L. Steed and Mr. Michael P. Steed in honor of their father as a way to help students with their education.




Roger King Scholarship Fund

The Roger King Scholarship Fund recognizes that many incoming first generation college students face a number of challenges, one of which is financial. By assisting a student financially, it is hoped that a benefiting recipient will be better able to concentrate on the academic and campus life experiences that will become a foundation for a rewarding future.


Roy Richards Sr. Scholarship

The Roy Richards, Sr. Scholarship shall be awarded annually to as many freshmen as funds allow by the general scholarship committee ensuring that funds are available for existing scholarship recipients eligible for renewal.  The student must have 3.0 GPA and be a child of a Southwire employee (confirmed by Southwire). The Roy Richards, Sr. Scholarship is renewable each academic year.  Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher to be eligible for award renewal.  Students are awarded $1000 per academic year ($500 per semester). 
 
 


Russell G. & Mary A. Sarner Presidential Scholarship

The Russell G. and Mary A. Sarner Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded annually by the UWG Honors College to a student who has achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Under university guidelines, a student must maintain a minimum West Georgia GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors courses. Preference will be given to a University of West Georgia student seeking a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. The minimum criteria for the Presidential Scholarship are subject to change.

Scholarship shall go to a deserving student who is majoring in Education.


Samuel Teague Ray, Sr. Public Health Endowment

The recipient must be a junior or senior majoring in Health & Community Wellness, have a minimum GPA of 2.65, and demonstrate financial need.  Additionally, they must be active in their community/volunteer.


Scott Kauffman Presidential Scholarship

The Scott Kauffman Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded by the UWG Honors College to a student who has achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. Under university guidelines, a student must maintain a minimum UWG GPA of 3.2 and participate in Honors courses. The minimum criteria for the Presidential scholarship are subject to change.


Sherman and Betty Wilson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to students from Talbot, Meriwether and Harris counties in Georgia who have a future goal as a physician. Students must also demonstrate academic ability and financial need. It is the expressed desire of the donor that any student taking the scholarship must practice medicine in the tri-county area mentioned above for one year for each year the scholarship is received.

The Dr. Ryan Kauffman Presidential Scholarship

The Kauffman Scholarship is presented to a biology major who has graduated from an accredited high school in Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, or Paulding, Counties. Recipients will be selected on academic merit alone and must have achieved a minimum high school grade point average of 3.5 and a combined SAT score of 1200. The scholarship is renewable each year provided the student remains full time at UWG as a Biology major, and intends to attend medical or graduate school, maintains a GPA of at least 3.2, participates in Honors courses, and serves as a mentor and role model for other biology majors.


The Dr. T.R. "Cotton" Williamson Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. T.R. Cotton Williamson Scholarship award is a memorial scholarship presented to a Georgia resident majoring in biology who demonstrates financial need.


The Laura Handy Knight Memorial Scholarship

The Laura Handy Knight Memorial Scholarship award is a memorial scholarship presented to a rising junior or senior biology major with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.


The Morgan M. Hutson Memorial Scholarship

The William P. Maples Scholarship

The William P. Maples Scholarship award is a memorial scholarship presented to a deserving biology major with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Preference will be given to a student who is supporting a child and/or demonstrates financial need. The recipient must meet or exceed the UWG’s academic standards throughout the duration of their scholarship.


Thelma Brunson Larson Scholarship

This award shall be awarded to an outstanding student majoring in Anthropology.


Thelma Clifton Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Mitch Clifton, retired assistant professor of computer science at UWG, graciously donated funds to establish this endowed scholarship as a memorial to his mother, Thelma Clifton, and her great interest in education and learning.The scholarship will be awarded to a currently enrolled sophomore or junior majoring in Computer Science. In addition, the student must be in good academic standing, have an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher, and intend to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.

The scholarship was established by the friends and family of the late Thomas R. Luck, Jr. Mr. Luck was a 1939 graduate of West Georgia College and successful Atlanta attorney.




Thomas S. Upchurch Educational Leadership Scholarship

Graduate or doctoral student in Educational leadership based on merit and financial need. Intent to establish future leaders in education.


Tim and Dede Brown Business Scholarship

This scholarship shall be awarded annually to a business major with financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.0.  Priority will be given to a Veteran with past leadership experience, a desire to succeed, and demonstrated effort.

Tony Jackson Garrett Scholarship (a.k.a. Fraternal Order of Police)

Rising junior full-time, preference for graduate from high school in Carroll County, GPA 3.0, seeking B.S. in Criminology or senior seeking Masters in Criminology, secondary criteria if primary is not able to be filled - seeking B.S. in Education or Nursing, financial need as a consideration.


TRANSFER Foundation Scholarship

UWG is committed to offering scholarships to all incoming student types, including transfer students. UWG’s Transfer Foundation Scholarship Program is a competitive merit scholarship program designed to recognize exemplarary academic success in varying amounts up to $5,000.  Qualified candidates must have a transfer gpa of at least 3.0 (calculated by the UWG Office of Admissions) and a desire to become involved in volunteer student leadership opportunities within the Admissions Office, Office of Housing & Residence Life, or community service activities while at UWG. 


TRANSFER Phi Theta Kappa Foundation Scholarship

UWG is committed to offering scholarships to all incoming student types, including transfer students. The Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Foundation Scholarship is designed for incoming transfer students who have a transfer GPA of 3.5 or higher on all transferable coursework, have earned an associate's degree, and are a current member of a Phi Theta Kappa chapter. 


Trinka Davis Rynne Book Scholarship

The Trinka Davis Rynne Book Scholarship in the amount of $100 shall be awarded to five (5) students each in the fall and spring. The following criteria shall be applied when choosing recipients:
  1. Applicants required textbooks must cost in excess of $400 for the term.
  2. Applicants have not received the Trinka Davis Rynne Book Scholarship any other time during the current academic year.
  3. Recipients will be prior members of the United States Armed Forces.
  4. Recipients must reside in Carroll County.



UWG Alumni Legacy Scholarship

Criteria:  
*incoming undergraduate student
*enrolled full-time
*unweighted HS GPA of 3.0 or higher
*meets all UWG Admissions requirements 
*have at least one parent with UWG degree
*Write essay on impact/importance of receiving award (500 words or less)  


UWG Bands Scholarship

Students must participate in assigned bands for fall and spring semesters.


UWG Retiree Legacy Scholarship Fund

The UWG Retiree Legacy Scholarship shall be awarded annually to full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are retirees of the institution or who are direct descendants or an immediate family relation of a retired faculty or staff member (with a minimum of 10 years of service). Recipients will have a minimum GPA of 2.5, with preference given to applicants with higher GPA. Preference will also be given to applicants with a demonstrated financial need as determined bu the UWG Financial Aid Office.


Vachel Davis Whatley Jr. Scholarship

The Vachel Davis Whatley Jr. Scholarship shall be awarded annually to a sophomore, junior, or senior at the University of West Georgia who intends to complete a four-year curriculum graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. The recipient must be a Georgia resident, with preference given to Carroll County, Polk County, or Troup County residents.

Vera Howard Simpson Education Scholarship (Freshman)

Award for a student who's GPA is 2.75 and has unmet financial need.

Verna Pope Jordan Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to any student, has achieved a minimun GPA of 2.5. Financial need, preferably does not receive HOPE Scholarship.


Veterans Emergency Relief Fund

The Veterans Emergency Relief Fund will provide financial assistance to as many as five (5) veterans by assisting them with the cost of groceries, a portion of a mortgage or rent payment, or funds for repairs to their automobile. The primary goals are to alleviate some of the financial burden and create a culture where veterans know that UWG and the greater West Georgia community want to help. The following criteria shall be applied when choosing recipients:
  1. Applicants must be willing to document need as part of an interview process.
  2. Recipients will be prior members of the United States Armed Forces.
  3. Recipients must reside in Carroll County.



W. Glenn Moore Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship recipient shall be a student in the Economics program at the University of West Georgia.
Amount:  $700 awarded annually


Waring, Antonio J. Jr. Anthropology Scholarship (CURRENTLY ENROLLED)

In accordance with the primary mission of the fund, The Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Scholarship Fund Endowment awards the Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Anthropology Endowment Scholarship to Anthropology majors at the University of West Georgia.  These awards offset the cost of education for students, taking into account the costs of tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

Warren L. Jones Class of 1939 Scholarship

The Warren L. Jones Class of 1939 Scholarship shall be awarded annually. When choosing the recipient the following criteria shall be applied.
1. The student shall have financial need as determined by the UWG Office of Financial Aid.
2. Preference shall be given to a cheerleader at the University of West Georgia ; however, it is only a preference. Should there be no cheerleader eligible it is the donors intention that the award go to the most deserving student.



West Georgia Bankers Association Scholarship

This scholarship is to be awarded to an undergraduate Finance major.  Preference will be given to students from the west Georgia region of Carroll, Coweta, Heard, and Haralson Counties.  The Accounting and Finance Department will choose the recipient.
Amount:  $1,000 awarded annually 


West Georgia Life Underwriters Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates academic ability and financial need and is a resident of Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Heard, or Haralson counties who is majoring in Business and maintains a 2.5 GPA.




Wilda Seagraves Jackson Scholarship Award

Senior Education major with a 3.2 GPA or better.


William D. Conner Scholarship

Designated for a graduate student with financial need majoring in Secondary Education Mathematics. Academic achievement will be the secondary consideration. Preference will be given to a minority grad student meeting the scholarship criteria. If a minority grad doesn't meet criteria, it will be given to an undergrad majoring in Mathematics Ed. Scholarship is renewable for up to 6 years if continued to meet criteria.


William J. Wiggins Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need, has GPA of 3.0, and is a resident of Carroll County.




William Lockhart Scholarship

In honor of Dr. William L. Lockhart, an annual scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in chemistry who has a GPA of 2.0 or better and demonstrated financial need. The student must be in good academic standing with the College of Science and Mathematics. If all awarding criteria is equal, the donor has requested preference be given to a promising chemistry major who has exhibited "heart" considered to encompass integrity, character, enthusiasm, intensity and perseverance.

The Francis Wood Wilson Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who meet the eligibility requirements.

Yeager Family Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate junior or senior majoring in business with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.  The scholarship may be renewed for an additional academic year provided the recipient meets the requirements.
